AI:ON/ ON:AI is a project that explores the use of Artificial Intelligence through the lens of self-created mythologies. It poses the question “how would artificial intelligence narrate the mythology of its own creation and its creators?", and was conceptualized as a way to explore AI while maintaining a critical stance on the ethics of using machine learning tools for text, image and sound generation.
The project is comprised of two sequences:
The first sequence’s base images, text and audio were generated using small-scale, open source AI tools. The raw output of these image, text, and sound generating AI programs were then subject to the intervention. The final composition is, ultimately, the product of human intervention: any creation by AI is a myth, founded on a database of human creativity and packaged by human intervention and ingenuity.
The second sequence is an exercise of the human artist as the engine of reproduction - comprised of hand drawn copies of the AI-generated frames accompanied by original audio, mimicking the view of AI’s capacity for creation.
This project was part of the course requirements of the Master’s in Motion Design program of the BAU College of Arts and Design Barcelona, the use of AI was an obligatory part of the briefing and was necessary for the completion of the program.
The authors of this project do not endorse the use of Aritificial Intelligence in the form of image generation software or the like that are trained on data obtained without consent or compensation to their original authors.
